Do you find that even with loving care that you have some plants that just don’t look loved? Even experienced growers have plants that don’t “look right” and have something wrong with them and you just don’t know what it going on. Our program this month will provide an Orchid Doctor to help identify and advise care for these problems. Buddy Harvie has grown orchids for over thirty years and with Wanda and Bayne Hawkins has held clinics for VOS and ROA many times. Buddy heard about a commercial orchid grower in the area that was going out of business so he bought several plants which died shortly afterward except for one that had 13 blooms and he was hooked. It only takes one to become an orchid addict! You have seen Buddy’s special orchids for many years and know he did learn how to grow them and very well.
Bring any plants that are ailing, no matter what they may look like. If you think it has a critter of some kind please bring it in a plastic bag so that they are not spread to other plants. There are many causes of problems with orchids and some look very much alike. We all have plants that are having problems no matter how long you have been growing orchids. There is no limit to the number of plants you may bring. This will be a different type meeting and hopefully helpful to most of us. You will learn to recognize problems that others have and be able to deal with them when they turn up at your house.
The meeting is at 2 p.m. at the Hermitage. Plants for judging should be on the table by 1:40 p.m.
