Most of our members are acquainted with Tom Mirenda, the speaker for our January meeting. He is particularly knowledgeable about a wide variety of orchids and travels to places where he can see them growing in the wild. The subject for this time is the Orchids of South Africa. Now who else would go to South Africa looking for orchids? Tom is the orchid collection specialist at the Smithsonian Institution and an accredited orchid judge. He also writes a very informative article every month in Orchids magazine for the AOS that features something that will help us with the culture of our plants for that month. With Tom’s wide knowledge of orchids he will be able to answer any of your questions about orchids and their culture no matter what genera. You will want to come and find out what kinds of orchids grow in South Africa.
January is a prime blooming month and there will be many beautiful blooms on the Showtable.
The next meeting is January 11 at 2 p.m. at the Hermitage.
